![]() That work, in turn, has led him to use the algorithms developed for industrial applications. Katzgraber’s past academic work has focused on testing Parisi’s theory numerically using large-scale, high-performance computing clusters. Parisi, who in 1987 coauthored the book “ Spin Glass Theory and Beyond”, was honored by the Nobel committee “for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales”. Giorgio Parisi, who shared the 2021 Nobel Prize in physics, is known for his seminal work in spin glasses. In condensed matter physics, a spin glass is a magnetic state characterized by frustration and randomness. Katzgraber, who joined Amazon’s Quantum Solutions Lab more than a year ago, is well-known for his work in statistical physics, including seminal papers in the areas of spin glasses, and the development of numerical methods to study them.
